General
-
How can third-party applications access files stored in
liquidFOLDERS?
liquidFOLDERS integrates neatly into the Windows file system, so all files are accessible by other applications.
-
What about privacy and safety?
liquidFOLDERS runs locally on your computer. Except for cloud storage locations, all files are stored in the Windows file system on your machine.
No user has ever lost any files due to a malfunction of our software.
-
Why doesn't liquidFOLDERS recommend files, e.g. while typing in the
search bar?
In our experience, recommendations are hardly ever useful: suggestions such as “People you may know” or “Other customers are interested in” are always based on the past, and cannot estimate what you're looking for right now in a whole new situation. In conclusion, we relinquish suggestions to keep the user interface of liquidFOLDERS as simple and clean as possible.
-
Are there any easter eggs in liquidFOLDERS?
Yes, two.

-
Does liquidFOLDERS support Windows server editions?

What's your update policy?
Updates for liquidFOLDERS are provided free of charge and are always cumulative, i.e. each update contains all changes and improvements of previous versions.
liquidFOLDERS checks for updates daily with default settings, and notifies you. You can always decide if you'd like to install an update or not.
Storage locations
-
How long does it take a newly created storage location on a
network share to propagate throughout my network?
To keep network traffic low, locations are updated every 60 seconds. That's not true for their files, though: all changes become visible immediately when you press F5 to reload the current search result.

What do the location sashes indicate?
The colored sashes indicate special conditions of a location.
Green: marks the default location. New files are saved to the default location, unless another location is explicitly selected.
Blue: this location was created within the last 24 hours, or it contains new files.
Black: the location does not contain any files.
Red: indicates an error accessing the location. This is usually caused by a write-protected volume or wrong access rights set in Windows' NTFS file system.
-
How can files be made available offline?
With liquidFOLDERS, you can search for files even when their location (such as a USB volume or a network share) is not available at that time.

Hardware
-
What does the error message “Cannot create OpenGL
context” mean?
liquidFOLDERS relies on the OpenGL standard for rendering its 3D globe. We strive to support a large spectrum of different graphics hardware, starting from low-end netbooks. This is why liquidFOLDERS does not use shaders, but employs the “Fixed Function Pipeline” of OpenGL. With some graphic cards, you have to enable the OpenGL compatibility profile in the driver settings:
-
Which graphic cards do you recommend?
We recommend graphic cards from AMD (former ATI) or Intel.
Leistung
-
How many files does liquidFOLDERS support?
liquidFOLDERS is provisioned for 100,000 to 1 million files. Retrieval time scales roughly proportional to the number of files.
-
What do the 3D settings “Low”, “Medium”,
“High” and “Ultra” mean?
The 3D model gets lighting (medium), atmosphere (high) and clouds (ultra). Texture sizes are 1024×1024 (low), 2048×1024 (medium) and 8192×4096 (ultra). There is no “High” level.
Depending on your graphics card only some options may be available.
